Erasmus+ mobility for students
Erasmus+ facilitates the coordination of student and doctoral exchanges. Engaging in international education through Erasmus+ allows students to strengthen their communication, language and intercultural abilities, as well as develop other valuable soft skills. Students can also combine their study abroad period with an internship to gain work experience. These study abroad opportunities are available to students pursuing bachelor's and short master's degree levels, as well as doctoral candidates.
Duration – A long-term study abroad period can last a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 12 months. Students can also engage in mixed mobility (combining a virtual period with a physical short-term or long-term mobility). Short-term physical mobility abroad, as part of mixed mobility, lasts a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 30 days.
Students can take advantage of the Erasmus+ exchange program abroad several times, both as a student and as an intern, but the total time abroad (including periods of study abroad) must not exceed 12 months during one study cycle (1st cycle – Bachelor or equivalent, 2nd cycle – Master or equivalent , 3rd level – doctoral student or relevant).
Conditions - To use the Erasmus+ program abroad, you must be actively enrolled in a higher education institution and have the status of an active student. A student's study abroad period must be consistent with the learning and personal development needs of his or her degree and be part of the program of study followed at his or her home university. It is necessary that there is an institutional agreement between the sending and the receiving institution within the framework of the Erasmus+ program. Also, both institutions must hold the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (if they are located in EU member states or in third countries associated with the Erasmus + program). Institutions from third countries that are not associated with the Erasmus+ program are bound by the principles of the Charter when signing institutional agreements. (Georgia is the third country that is not associated with the Erasmus+ program).
Academic recognition – before the period of study abroad: the student, sending and receiving higher education institutions must sign a study agreement to ensure a transparent and efficient preparation of the exchange program abroad, as well as to agree on how successful mobility will be recognized. This document outlines the rights and responsibilities of the various parties. Students receive an Erasmus+ Student Charter, which explains their rights and responsibilities regarding their study abroad period.
After a period of study abroad: the receiving higher education institution must provide the student and the sending institution with a transcript of the agreed program completion points and confirm the results. The sending higher education institution must recognize the credits as agreed in the study contract prior to mobility and count them towards the student's degree without any additional requirements.
Financial support – the student receives an Erasmus+ grant to cover his travel and living expenses. This may vary depending on the difference in living costs between his home country and the destination country, the number of students applying for the grant, the distance between the countries, and the availability of other grants.
A student participating in the Erasmus+ program is exempt from fees for tuition, registration, examinations and access to the laboratories and libraries of the host institution. A small insurance or student union membership fee may still apply. Some students may receive additional grants from their institution, the government, or other sources.
How to participate – Students must apply at the international or Erasmus+ offices of their higher education institutions. The student must be selected by the sending institution in a fair and transparent manner.
For students with physical, mental or health-related problems – Students with physical, mental or health-related problems can apply for additional funding after being selected for the mobility program.
