Georgian representatives of NEO and HEREs – Goderdzi Buchashvili and Natia Zedginidze, attended a two-day conference in Rabat on June 2025-2, 3, on the evolving landscape of higher education and the role of microcredit in it. The event, organized by the International University of Rabat as part of the SPHERE initiative, was attended by about 60 higher education reform experts (HEREs), political actors and institutional leaders.

The conference discussed the need to create targeted, flexible learning methods, driven by the rapidly changing labor market demands and the advances of digital education platforms. Discussions highlighted how microcredits can be integrated into national frameworks, which helps stimulate lifelong learning, improve professional qualifications, and strengthen university-industry cooperation.

Participants discussed systemic and institutional changes, including regulatory reforms, quality assurance and funding mechanisms, within the framework of the effective implementation of microcredit. While discussing existing best practices and policies, they also examined how microcredit practices fit into European frameworks, such as the “European Skills Agenda” and the “Bologna Process”.

As a result of the participation, based on the best practices studied, HERE Georgia representatives will develop targeted recommendations for higher education institutions and local decision-making institutions. These recommendations aim to encourage the systematic integration of microcredit into local education systems, as well as to strengthen innovation and economic competitiveness.

The conference once again highlighted the potential of microcredit to address skills gaps in the labor market, increase employability, and promote inclusive, lifelong learning. The role of higher education in this process and its ability to adapt to the demands of the modern world is noteworthy.
