Jean Monnet activities are a key part of the Erasmus+ programme. The initiative plays a major role in raising awareness of the European Union around the world and promotes teaching, learning and research in the field of EU studies, covering the history, objectives, structures, functions and policies of the organisation.
Jean Monnet activities in the field of higher education include modules, chairs and centres of excellence. Each activity is designed to deepen expertise, expand educational opportunities and promote innovation in EU-related teaching and research.

Chart 1 – Jean Monnet projects by year (from Georgia)
From 2014 to 2020, 81 projects were selected out of 22 Jean Monnet applications submitted by Georgia, reflecting Georgia’s growing involvement in EU research. In the current Erasmus+ program cycle (2021–2027), Georgia has already reached the 2014-2020 figure, with 43 projects selected out of 22 applications (Table 1, Figure 1).
From 2021 to 2023, there is a trend of increasing the number of successful applications from Georgia: in 2021, two projects were selected, and in 2022 and 2023, seven each. These data indicate a significant increase in the interest of Georgian institutions in the EU. The high rate of selected projects continued in 2024. This year, six projects were selected from Georgia (Table 1, Chart 1).
Despite the results of previous years, no projects were selected from Georgia in 2025. At this stage, there is also no information on how many Jean Monnet applications were submitted from Georgia in total in 2025 or whether Georgian institutions are involved in the Jean Monnet network in the same year (Table 1, Chart 1).
The increase in the number of selected Jean Monnet projects is an indicator of the growing interest in EU research and values in Georgia, and maintaining and improving this indicator is crucial for strengthening the country's education, research, and cooperation with the EU.
