Georgian youth sector in the Erasmus+

Through the Erasmus+ program, young Georgians are given the opportunity to receive intercultural education, which helps them in their personal and professional development. Georgia has achieved significant results since joining the Erasmus+ program.

Among the countries of the Eastern Partnership, Georgia has the highest rate of Erasmus+ mobility, with 532 out of 204 mobility in 2014-2020, these data make up 38% of all youth exchange programs. This statistic highlights not only the commitment of the Georgian youth sector to promoting international interaction, but also the strength of this sector in organizing and managing youth events. As a result, Georgian young people actively participate in exchange programs and their number (812) is 25% of the total mobility of the Eastern Partnership region. It should be noted that Georgia hosted a total of 7692 participants. This number is the highest in the region. These data once again emphasize the leading role of Georgia in promoting mobility for young people.

These exchange programs have a great impact on Georgian youth. These programs provide platforms for education, cultural exchange and personal growth. Also, they form participants who are actively involved in the democratization of Georgia. Many Erasmus + participants have become involved in youth or civil society organizations (CSOs), where they have the opportunity to become young European ambassadors and leaders in the EU4Youth Alumni Network program. Erasmus+ participants often share with Georgian youth the experiences gained while participating in the program and talk with them about such topics as: protecting the rights of young people and promoting inclusiveness in order to make positive changes.

Participation in Erasmus+ highlights the potential and willingness of Georgian youth to collaborate with European colleagues, share knowledge, and work on projects that address common challenges.

Georgia's involvement within the framework of Erasmus+ serves as a call to action by the youth sector, the goal of which is to strengthen Georgia's coexistence with the European family and develop using the opportunities of the Erasmus+ program.

The Erasmus+ Program is an opportunity for learning, and experiencing intercultural exchange for Georgian youth, significantly contributing to personal and professional development. Georgia's engagement with Erasmus+ has seen remarkable achievements.

Georgia stands out for hosting the largest number of youth exchanges, with 204 out of 532 across the Eastern partnership countries between 2014 and 2020, accounting for 38% of all youth exchanges. This not only highlights Georgia's youth sector's commitment to fostering international youth interaction but also its capability in organizing and managing youth events. As a result, Georgian youth have actively participated in these exchanges, with 812 outbound exchanges, representing 25% of all exchanges in the Eastern partnership region. Remarkably, Georgia has welcomed 7,692 participants, the highest in the region, further emphasizing its leading role in facilitating youth mobility.

The impact of these exchanges on Georgian youth cannot be measured nor overstated. They have provided platforms for learning, cultural exchange, and personal growth, shaping participants into active contributors to their communities and Georgia's democratization. Many have taken their experiences further, involving themselves in Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), youth organizations, and even taking representation roles as European Youth Ambassadors and leaders of their communities in the EU4Youth Alumni Network. These positions allow them to transfer their Erasmus+ experiences to advocate for youth issues, promote inclusivity, and drive positive change among other Georgian young people.

This impressive participation in Erasmus+ underscores the potential and eagerness of Georgian youth to engage with their European counterparts, share knowledge, and collaborate on projects that address common challenges.

Georgia's story within Erasmus+ serves as a powerful call to action for the youth sector to remain involved and lead the way in enriching Georgia's presence on the European stage, and to move forwards towards a bigger amount of opportunities for the sector within the Erasmus+ Programme.
